As with everywhere else in the Delta region, boats play a major role in transportation, and there are an incredbible variety of water-transport options available. The Mekong Delta is also an exceptionally flat region, which makes walking and cycling pleasant options for getting around, although the midday summer heat may discourage some from these options.

Getting There & Away
Air
Can Tho Airport (VCA) is located 10 kilometres south of the city centre. Flights operated to and from the airport are generally run by Vietnam Airlines. It has plans to add international flights in the near future.

Flights to Hanoi
Bus
The bus station is located on Nguyen Trai Street, which is about 2 kilometres northwest of the city centre. There are regular connections to Ho Chi Minh City’s Mien Tay Bus Station and other centres in the Mekong Delta.
Can Tho is located 34 km from Vinh Long, 62 km from Long Xuyen, 63km from Soc Trang, 104km from My Tho, 116km from Rach Gia, 117km from Chau Doc, 169km from Ho Chi Minh City and 179km from Ca Mau.
Boat
The Green line hydrofoil carries passengers between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho, travelling via My Tho. The trip takes about four hours, and the hydrofoil is fairly comfortable. One way fares are US$24 for foreigners. Daily trips leave for Can Tho at 07:30 and in Can Tho at Ninh Kieu Quay at 11:30. The Can Tho departure is at 13:30, arriving in Ho Chi Minh City (Bach Dang Port) at 17:30.
Getting Around
Xe Honda Loi
Xe Honda Loi, which are basically just a motorcycle pulling an attached carriage, are a very convenient, quick and inexpensive way of getting around Can Tho. You will generally be able to get most places around town for under 10,000 dong, but will need to negotiate the price before beginning your journey. If you are wishing to go on a trip into the surrounding villages or countryside, there are several taxi companies located in Can Tho.
Boat
The small boats that congregate along the waterfront can be hired from as little as 30,000 VND (US$2) per hour. Various trips that are possible are Phong Diem (4-5 hours) or Phung Hiep (6-7 hours), both of which offer fascinating floating markets. These trips can generally be negotiated for around US$25. However, a better option is taking road transport to these locations, and then hiring boats locally.
